I don’t think I’ve ever had a soda with honey flavoring in it before and it took me by surprise every time. The peach hits right away, once you know what it is, but the honey sneaks in. I’m debating on going to get another right now good. Being a northerner for the vast majority of my life means I’ve never tasted any version of this flavor combination. I have to assume it’s a Southern staple and also a call back to Mountain Dew’s moonshine origins. Turns out Sweet Lightning is a combination of peach and honey. But what is it? I honestly had no idea what this new flavor was meant to be. What flavor is it? Hell, what color is it? One taste and I was still just as confused. Much like Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park I was so obsessed with trying a new Mountain Dew I didn’t think to ask questions.
One add on to the order later and I was back home to drink… something? The formerly exclusive to Taco Bell beverage, Baja Blast, is arguably their best flavor. Somehow, this new one only at KFC and only available as a fountain drink missed me. My dinner was already planned out but I am a fan of trying every new soda I see. Or, as was the case last night, there was a kid in the car who wanted giant chicken tenders and thick cut potato wedges. But every so often I’m really in the mood for KFC and no other even similar food will do. When it’s late at night and we’re too tired to cook anything other stops usually come up first.
Nothing against them, but KFC isn’t on my frequent fast food stops. I should follow it up with “Electric Buggalo”.Īnd a great follow up to a meal is some Sweet Lightning. MTN Dew’s Sweet Lightning will be on permanent pour at KFC locations nationwide. That’s a great headline. “And like our world-famous fried chicken, Sweet Lightning will keep fans coming back for more.” “With the addition of Sweet Lightning, we now have a drink that is as unique to KFC as the Colonel’s secret blend of 11 herbs and spices,” says Andrea Zahumensky, chief marketing officer, KFC U.S. Original Recipe is a KFC brand staple, and the innovation experts for each brand wanted to create a beverage that is as unique as the fried chicken it was created to complement. Sweet Lightning was developed in partnership with the food and beverage innovation experts at KFC and MTN DEW to create the perfect pairing for KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken. “To come together on an exclusive product – Sweet Lightning – is a thrill, and we look forward to delighting our customers’ taste buds and pushing the envelope on creativity.” “Like KFC, MTN DEW is inspired by bold ideas and flavors, making this an authentic relationship from the start,” says Nicole Portwood, vice president of marketing, MTN DEW. For DEW, this is only the second time the brand has partnered with a quick-service restaurant-the first being the hugely successful Baja Blast which debuted at KFC’s sister restaurant, Taco Bell, nearly a decade-and-a-half ago. MTN DEW Sweet Lightning is the first exclusive beverage to be offered at KFC. The Colonel and Sweet shook on it, agreeing that Sweet Lightning would not be served in any other restaurant, and one sweet deal was struck. How did it go down? With a “glass is always full” swagger, Sweet strolls into Colonel Sanders’ office with his Southern charm and wins him over quicker than a bolt of lightning could strike. He’s the MTN DEW pitchman who is sweet, smooth and lightning-fast enough to become a mainstay at KFC, where the food is finger lickin' good. Available exclusively at KFC restaurants nationwide by July 1, DEW is fixin’ up a true-to-its-roots soda that will brighten each and every one of your taste buds. Mountain Dew and KFC are partnering to electrify their beverage lineup with Sweet Lightning, a refreshment lit up with a punch of peach and a touch of honey flavors.
